What this checker looks at

1

The tags

og:image, og:title, og:description, twitter:card and friends - present, sensible, and with the fallbacks each platform actually applies.

2

The image itself

The og:image is fetched and inspected: real format from the file bytes, pixel dimensions vs the 1200x630 recommendation, and file weight vs platform limits.

3

The result

Approximate previews for X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, and Discord, plus a prioritized fix list. Nothing is stored; each check fetches your page once.

FAQ

Why is my link preview not showing at all?

The usual causes, in order: the page has no og:image tag, the image URL is broken or relative, the image is too large or an unsupported format, or the page itself blocks crawlers with a non-200 response. Run the check above - each of those shows up as a specific error.

I fixed my tags but platforms still show the old preview. Why?

Platforms cache previews aggressively. Facebook re-scrapes via the Sharing Debugger ("Scrape Again"), LinkedIn via the Post Inspector. X has no public refresh tool - the practical workaround is changing the image URL, for example by appending a version query like ?v=2.

What size should an og:image be?

1200x630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) is the size platforms recommend and the one this checker measures against. Below roughly 600px wide, Facebook demotes the card to a small thumbnail; below 200x200 it rejects the image entirely.

Do I need twitter:card if I already have og:image?

Yes. X reads og:image for the picture, but the card layout is opt-in through the twitter:card tag. Set it to summary_large_image for the full-width layout.

Does this tool store my pages or images?

No. Each check fetches your page and its og:image once, runs the checks, renders the result, and keeps nothing. Checking again fetches again.

How do I get a good og:image without a designer?

The betterimage editor generates exact 1200x630 cards in the browser for free. If your site has many pages, the API can generate an on-brand image for every page automatically from one saved template.
